Current Capital Projects

Houston Airports has a five-year capital improvement program, approved by the City of Houston City Council, which calls for $2.05 billion of spending through fiscal year 2022.  Review progress of representative IAH (Bush Airport), HOU (Hobby Airport) and EFD (Ellington Airport) terminal and airfield projects that are currently in progress.

IAH Terminal D:  checkpoint remodel

Complete remodel of check point including reconfiguration of existing lanes, addition of one lane and replacement of four existing lanes with automated bin return system.

EFD:  NEW Air Traffic Control Tower

Crews broke ground April 24, 2017 on Ellington Airport’s new air traffic control tower. The new tower will replace the airport’s existing tower that was originally built in the early 1950’s.  The new tower will enhance current services and provide mission control support for future Houston Spaceport operations.

IAH Terminal D:  Baggage Makeup Units

Complete remodel of baggage handling system consisted of demolition of and

EFD:  Scholl Road Reconstruction

Reconstruct Popa Street, Nelson Avenue (north of Popa Street), and Scholl Road to a 30 year pavement design. These roadways are approximately 2,500 linear feet and encompass the area from Aerospace Avenue to Brantley Avenue.

IAH:  Advanced Parking Guidance System

Construction program to install new windows, doors, and insulation for reduction of aircraft noise in 27 single family homes.
