Float celebrates the three airports and the roles they play in making Houston a growing global gateway
HOUSTON — Break out your boots on Saturday, when the Houston Airport System kicks off recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Bush Airport with participation in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade.
As part of the festivities, the Houston Airport System will debut a float that celebrates the three Houston Airport System airports — George Bush Intercontinental Airport, William P. Hobby Airport, and Ellington Airport, home to the Houston Spaceport — and the roles they play in making Houston a growing global gateway. It will be escorted by the Airport Rangers, a volunteer mounted patrol equestrian group that assists in securing the perimeter of the 13,000 acres of George Bush Intercontinental Airport, including wooded trails.
The 50th anniversary celebration for Bush Airport in 2019 will kick into high gear on March 23, 2019, when the IAH Fest Community Celebration is held at Houston’s largest Airport. The event features live music, free food, and fun activities such as aircraft displays, games and a special birthday cake honoring 50 years of growth at Bush Airport. The annual event celebrates Western heritage and marks the beginning of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo season, a tradition since 1938. This year’s rodeo parade begins at 10 a.m. and the route begins at Bagby and Walker streets, travels from Travis to Bell Street, and from Bell Street to Louisiana Street, before turning on Lamar Street, and ends at Lamar and Bagby. Deshaun Watson, quarterback for the Houston Texans, is the 2019 parade grand marshal.
