If you're looking for a place to work that is diverse and inclusive, consider Houston Airports. Employees like Lariesha Pierce-Kelly are sharing their personal experiences of working for one of the busiest airport systems in the United States.
Lariesha Pierce-Kelly is an Airport Operations Supervisor for Houston Airports. In May 2020 she earned the position of Lead Custodian. In a video produced by Houston Airports to attract and retain employees, Pierce-Kelly shares how she formed a goal to progress and advance within Houston Airports. She eventually applied for and received the position of Airport Operations Supervisor of Custodial Services.
"Through hard work and determination, training, education, encouragement by their peers and managers, employees can advance to great levels within the airport system," says Sam Rea, Assistant Director of George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Employee Jodrick Mosely is an Airport Services Representative for Houston Airports. He believes he's a testimony to the opportunity and advancement that is cultivated and celebrated within the airport system. "I started in custodial services and I did that for 15 years. I've been in international services for almost five years. I wanted to be able to help passengers beyond what I was doing at the time."
Mosley shares how he was approached by multiple Spanish-speaking passengers. Mosely, who didn't speak Spanish at the time, needed the help of a co-worker to assist the passenger. Houston Airports is a primary gateway to Latin America. Houston is the most diverse city in the United States. Mosley says his desire to help all passengers encouraged him to learn Spanish. "I asked myself, why do I always have to go and get the co-worker when I could learn the language myself? Learning the language helped me get the job that I have now."
"There's always room for improvement and there's always more opportunities to serve our customers," says Rea. "We're striving for that every day. We're looking for the best in every field, because if we're going to achieve our goals of being the first city in the world with two 5-Star Skytrax airports, how can we accomplish that if we don't have the best people?"
