Houston Airports understands the importance of catering to the needs of all our passengers, including families traveling with children. The revitalized playscape reflects our dedication to providing everyone with a seamless and enjoyable journey.
Houston Airports is thrilled to provide an update on the ongoing revitalization efforts at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) Terminal D. The renovation of the existing Terminal D is part of the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP), which also includes the addition of a brand-new concourse and the construction of a new International Central Processor. As part of these developments, IAH is already reshaping the airport experience for airport guests. Houston Airports is excited to offer an increasing array of thoughtful amenities curated for children and their families.
Playtime Equipment is now positioned between gates D15 and D16. This equipment originally graced the old D5 Gate area, bringing a touch of nostalgia and a sense of playfulness to a refreshed Terminal D.
The relocated play equipment results from a logistical coordination between the Houston Airports Terminal Management and Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) teams. It took about 10 hours to reinstall the refurbished unit.
"We understand the importance of catering to the needs of all our passengers, including families traveling with children. The revitalized Terminal D reflects our dedication to providing a seamless and enjoyable journey for everyone," said Andrew Czobor, Assistant Director of IAH Terminal D. “The new Mickey Leland International Terminal, with its upgraded amenities and family-friendly spaces, reinforces the commitment of Houston Airports to achieve excellence. We look forward to unveiling the expanded Terminal D, where passengers can not only travel efficiently but also enjoy a truly world-class experience.”
These additions to Terminal D align with the commitment of Houston Airports to provide a world-class travel experience for passengers of all ages.
Child-friendly features include:

- Car Crawl-Through: An interactive car designed for children to crawl through, sparking their creativity and providing entertainment.
- Suitcase Stack: A stack of suitcases that doubles as a climbing structure, offering a unique play experience for younger travelers.
- Airport Runway Carpet: Specially designed carpet mimicking an airport runway, providing an immersive and engaging environment for children.
Importance of Family-Friendly Play Areas
Creating dedicated play areas for children is more than just a whimsical addition to the terminal; it's a crucial component of our commitment to passenger satisfaction.
Traveling with children can be challenging, and providing a space where they can expend energy, have fun, and engage in imaginative play helps alleviate stress for both parents and young travelers.
Families can now enjoy the convenience of these thoughtfully designed play areas, enhancing their overall airport experience. By incorporating these family-friendly features, Houston Airports aims to create a welcoming and comfortable environment that sets a new standard in air travel.
