Employees who work overnight shifts consistently show up, keep Houston's airports operational and ensure the safety and well-being of airport guests. National Third Shift Workers Day was founded to recognize the crucial role.
Houston Airports joined the nation in recognizing National Third Shift Workers Day on May 8th, honoring the dedicated employees who keep the airports operational through the night.
National Third Shift Workers Day, celebrated annually on the second Wednesday of May, acknowledges the vital contributions of those who work outside traditional daytime hours. These night owls play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for passengers at airports across the country.
We understand and appreciate the sacrifices our third-shift workers make," said Kelly Woodward, Chief Operating Officer for Houston Airports. "Working nights disrupts regular routines and can make personal life challenging. Yet, our third shift employees consistently demonstrate dedication, keeping our airports operational and ensuring the safety and well-being of our passengers. We are truly grateful for their commitment to keeping Houston Airports a world-class travel hub."
In an email to their night-shift employees, Houston Airports highlighted the unique challenges these workers face, including disrupted sleep schedules, difficulties attending events outside of working hours and maintaining a regular routine.
"Despite these challenges," the email continued, "you consistently show up, keep our airports operational, and ensure the safety and well-being of our guests. National Third Shift Workers Day was founded to recognize your crucial role."
This recognition program underscores the importance of valuing and supporting all employees, regardless of their work schedule. Houston Airports recognizes that the dedication of its night-shift workers plays a vital role in ensuring a positive travel experience for passengers flying through Bush and Hobby airports.
