Houston Airports launched its celebration of the 100th anniversary of Ellington Airport with a special Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo parade float dedicated in honor of the milestone.
The Houston Airports Rangers escorted the float during the annual parade. Valued airport partners from the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, the Texas Air National Guard, 147th Reconnaissance Wing and the Ellington Task Force rode on the float and on horse back with the rangers.The float was dedicated to Ellington Airport and its 100 years of supporting aviation and now aerospace operations
Since first being established on May 21, 1917, Ellington Airport has undergone many transformations and operational changes while remaining a consistent and important piece of Houston’s aviation story.
“The evolution of Ellington Airport is remarkable from its beginning as a World War I training facility, to now being a vital part of military and NASA operations and most recently a licensed spaceport,” said Houston Airports Chief External Affairs Officer Saba Abashawl. “We want to celebrate this milestone with the community who made it all possible, and we have an amazing event planned.”
This rich history will be celebrated on Saturday, May 20, 2017 with a centennial celebration at Ellington Airport. The event will be a free family-friendly event to thank the local community for its contribution to the success of the airport.
