The community came out on March 23 for a free, family-friendly event to celebrate the  50th Anniversary of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

More than 2,000 members of the community celebrated at a United hangar at Houston’s largest Airport. The free, family-friendly event featured live music, free food, and fun activities such as aircraft tours and displays, a rock-climbing wall, a mechanical bull, face painting, games and a special birthday cake honoring 50 years of growth at Bush Airport. Bush Airport — originally called Houston Intercontinental Airport when it opened in June 1969 — first opened with two terminals, A and B. Both terminal A and B were designed were circular modules with four “flight stations,” and, in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, Terminal A’s north and south concourses were remodeled into linear concourses. In recent years, the airport added a new Terminal B South Concourse and C North Terminal. The IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program will further enhance the airport’s footprint and capacity.

The airport has been celebrating all year including making appearances at the Houston Rodeo and the Houston Rodeo parade. Celebrations will be held in June at the terminals to mark the special occasion.
