HOUSTON — Volaris, the ultra-low cost Mexican airline that operates in Mexico, the United States and Central America celebrated the launch of an additional route to George Bush Intercontinental Airport on March 6.

A new route between Bush Airport and Mexico City will offer service four days per week.

“Passengers at Bush Airport continue to enjoy an unprecedented level of connectivity with Latin America and Volaris’ commitment to Houston is helping to make that connection even stronger,” Houston Aviation Director Mario Diaz said. “This new non-stop service to Mexico City complements the continued expansion of the international service available at Bush Airport and will provide Volaris’ customers with even better access to our dynamic, growing city and all that it offers.”

This new route is part of Volaris’ expansion strategy in U.S. key destinations. Volaris started operations in Houston at Bush Airport with a nonstop service from Guadalajara in 2015.

“We are thrilled to add this new route to our operations in Houston. We now connect these two important economic centers via a simple, fast and efficient flight,” said Miguel Aguiñiga, Director of Market Development and Distribution of Volaris. “This aligns with our point-to-point strategy and our business model of bringing families and friends together. We continue to make improvements to our customers’ travel experience through increased connectivity between the U.S. and Mexico and continuously-improved customer service.”

Houston is a major market for Volaris due to the large percentage of the population with a Mexican heritage. This important demographic makes the city a key location for Volaris’ expansion. In addition, Houston represents one of the most important energy markets in the United States. It is a high-traffic city located on the Gulf of Mexico’s coast and has access to numerous ports throughout the Americas.
