HOUSTON — The flavor of Houston was a hit with voters in this year’s 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest sponsored by USA Today.

Pink’s Pizza finished second and Pappasito's Cantina was fourth in voting for the Best Airport Local/Regional Dining category in the poll run by online travel site 10Best.com and promoted by USA Today.

Pink's Pizza, a local favorite featuring all manner of pizzas by the slice, craft beers and a full bar, opened its George Bush Intercontinental Airport location in 2016. Pappasito’s Cantina in the Terminal E food court at Bush Airport offers a variety of Tex-Mex dishes with plenty of options for beverages including beer and margaritas. Results of voting in that category can be found at this link.

Another local favorite, Hubcap Grill, which opened in Terminal A at Bush Airport in 2016, finished fourth in the voting for Best Airport Local/Regional Dining thanks to its variety of designer burgers, hand-spun boozy milkshakes, and a full bar that offers local and national beers on tap. Results of voting in that category can be found at this link.

In voting for Best Airport for Dining, Bush Airport finished sixth. Bush Airport was nominated thanks to its mix of fast casual and high-end dining choices, including a number of recognized Texas-based chain restaurants — such as Whataburger and Bullritos — and more refined fare, like Houston chef Bryan Caswell's 3rd Bar Eating House, French bistro wine bar Le Grand Comptoir and street food-focused Urban Crave. Results of voting in that category can be found at this link.

In the Best Airport Newsstand/Travel Essentials category, Texas Monthly News finished ninth. Located in Terminal A at Bush Airport, Texas Monthly News stocks a wide selection of local, regional, national and international newspapers, as well as magazines, travel accessories and essentials. Results of voting in that category can be found at this link.

As well, Pappasito’s Cantina at William P. Hobby Airport finished No. 10 in the voting for Best Airport Bar. Results of voting in that category can be found at this link.

Nominees for all categories in the contest were chosen by a panel of experts which included a combination of editors from USA Today and 10Best.com, as well as expert contributors. Airport Revenue News worked with industry experts to vet and nominate 15 finalists in each category.

Final results in all the categories can be found at this link.

Bush Airport and its expanded concessions options were honored earlier this week during the 2017 Skytrax World Airport Awards at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam. It finished ninth in the world for airport dining in the results of a survey of nearly 14 million airline customers conducted by Skytrax, recognized as a leading global air transport rating organization. Bush Airport was the highest rated airport for dining in North America. Earlier this month, RewardExpert.com ranked Bush Airport No. 5 overall in its 2017 Airport Dining Scorecard, and ranked tops among the top 20 most trafficked airports for vegetarian and vegan dining options.
