HAS Recognized at CMC Recognition Awards
January 15, 2015

The Houston Airport System (HAS) was recognized recently for the generosity of its employees in the City of Houston’s annual Combined Municipal Campaign (CMC).

The CMC Recognition is a way for the Combined Municipal Campaign to thank city departments who met their goals or challenges, and to thank employees who joined the Above & Beyond Club by donating 1 percent or more of their annual salary.

HAS earned two honors — one for having the highest percentage increase of employees participating in the annual fundraising drive, and another for having the highest percentage of employees who committed to the Above & Beyond Club.

HAS saw its participation increase from 46 percent in 2013 to 100 percent in 2014. Also, HAS saw its CMC donations increase by $14,067 more than its total from 2013. In 2013, HAS collected $53,900 and this year to date, HAS employees have collected $67,967.26.

“The generosity of HAS employees is great every year, but their participation this year has gone above and beyond,” said HAS CMC coordinator Karen W. Ellis. “Our 1,300 employees are active members of the Houston community and this annual campaign gives them and all city employees the opportunity to demonstrate the level of their commitment to that community. These awards recognize their generosity and the hard work of the co-coordinator Melissa Saxton and the CMC team at HAS.”

The Combined Municipal Campaign gives city employees the opportunity to demonstrate their strong sense of community by supporting environmental, health and social welfare issues that concern the citizens of Houston. The annual fundraising drive, which begins in August and continues through October, is run by city employees as a way for city employees to give to charitable organizations of their choice.

Thousands of people have been helped by the organizations represented in the campaign. The generosity of city employees improves conditions and demonstrates the power of the collective dollar and its far-reaching impact.
