Everyone is invited to join the festivities with chances to win a free set of airline tickets.

June 6, 2014

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) first opened its doors in June 1969, and to celebrate this significant anniversary, airport officials are holding a free, family-friendly event for the community on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The celebration will have something for all ages, including a variety of static displays, games, face painting, moonwalks, a video game bus and music. Guests can also participate in a raffle for electronics and more including the grand prize of a set of airlines tickets on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. There will also be a barbecue cook-off to crown the best beef brisket sliders in north Houston.

Now in its 45th year, Bush Intercontinental Airport plays an important role in the overall success of the Houston region and stands as a premiere global gateway with nonstop flights to 122 destinations in the U.S. and nearly 70 international destinations. With 40 million passengers per year, IAH makes a paramount contribution to maintaining the region's positive economic momentum, as well as the high quality of life enjoyed by its residents. Collectively, the airports within the Houston Airport System generate an economic impact of $27.5 billion to the Houston region with a sizeable portion coming from IAH.

“The 45th Celebration of IAH provides the perfect opportunity for us to thank and recognize the local community for their role in making George Bush Intercontinental Airport an economic engine to the Houston region,” said Carl Newman, George Bush Intercontinental Airport General Manager. “We hope all of Houston comes out to join us as we mark this important milestone in our City’s history.”

Free parking, along with a complimentary shuttle service, is available on 5050 Wright Road (Colonel Fisher Blvd.) in Houston.

Barbecue cook-off tickets are only $3 and raffle tickets range from $2 to $5; only cash will be accepted.
