Houston Airports Hosts Community Celebration at IAH
May 15, 2018

The Houston Airport System (HAS) recently held a free, family-friendly community event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Houston Rangers program.  Photos available here.

“There is so much to celebrate at Bush Airport this year — the 4-star rating earned from Skytrax, the continued growth toward the future and international travel and more — and we want to share our good fortune with everyone who has helped make it possible,” said HAS Chief External Affairs Officer Saba Abashawl. “We are also celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the Houston Airport Rangers program and wanted a fun and unique way to celebrate that important milestone.”

The Airport Rangers Program is the only airport equestrian volunteer program in the United States. It was created in 2003 to increase the security of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) through community participation. The program was a hit from the start. Enrollment quickly surpassed 200 members, and thousands of patrol hours have been added to the security system at IAH.

The event featured live music from the City Nights band, food from Rudy's BBQ restaurant, kids activities including face painting, balloon art, rock wall climbing, games, a jump house and popcorn and cotton candy stations.

In addition, eight teams participated in a Bar-B-Que cook-off. The teams included the Houston Airport System, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department, SSP America, Crane Worldwide Logistics and HMS Host. Special thank-you to Mayor Sylvester Turner,  our judges, Houston City Councilman Jack Christie, VisitHouston CEO Mike Waterman and George Bush Intercontinental Airport General Manager Ted Kitchens.
