The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is Houston’s premiere event—drawing in almost 2.5 million people in 2015 — and Houston Airports are taking part in the celebration.

Every year, the Houston Airports Rangers participate in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo parade. However, this year, the Airports joined the parade in a big way.  Airport staff designed and constructed a 20 ft. float that dazzled parade goers. The float featured a carriage pulling a large airplane with the airports’ connection message.

The hard work paid off because The Houston Airport System’s float received the parade’s Sweepstakes award which honors best in show.

Houston Airports are also bringing the rodeo to passengers traveling through the airports.  The airport system is again working with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to give passengers a first-class peek into one of the world’s largest livestock exhibitions from some of Houston’s most promising young artists. From now through the end of March, Houston Airports will display almost 200 works of art from past winners, pre-K through 12th grade students, of Rodeo Houston’s School Art program showcasing the culture, history and heritage of Texas.

Also on display throughout both airports are one-of-a-kind items, rodeo gear, a covered chuck wagon at the new international concourse at William P. Hobby Airport, a giant-sized cowboy boot at George Bush Intercontinental and more.

Each year, about 300,000 students from Houston-area schools participate in the contest that awards 15 four-year, $18,000 School Art Scholarship to graduating seniors. To date the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has awarded over $375 million to scholarships.

The rodeo runs through March 20, for more information visit www.rodeohouston.com.
