Houston can brag about having not one, but two airports in the Top 10 of its size classification in the J.D. Power 2018 North America Airport Satisfaction Study released Sept. 19.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) saw its score improve to 769 (on a scale of 1,000) and tied with Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport for sixth on the list of “mega” airports, well above the median score of 758 for the largest airports in North America. That result raised Bush Airport five spots from its ranking in 2017.

William P. Hobby (HOU) saw its score raise slightly, to 768 (on a scale of 1,000, putting it in a tie with Salt Lake City for the No. 10 spot on the Large airport list (see attached graphic), higher than the median score of 760 for airports in that group. It is the second straight year Hobby Airport was in the top 10.

The annual J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study measures overall traveler satisfaction with mega, large, and medium North American airports by examining six factors (in order of importance): terminal facilities; airport accessibility; security check; baggage claim; check-in/baggage check; food, beverage and retail. Now in its 13th year, the study is based on responses from 40,183 North America travelers who passed through at least one domestic airport and covers both departure and arrival experiences (including connecting airports) during the past three months. Travelers evaluated either a departing or arriving airport from their round-trip experience. The study was fielded from September 2017 through September 2018.
